Below is an excerpt of the scouting report I provided Baseball Digest Daily on Rangers prospect Chris Davis:
Chris DavisIn a word, I would describe Davis' swing as ferocious. How does he generate this power?
1. There is a clear intent to hit the ball a long, long way. Davis swings hard.
2. Davis uses a fairly high leg kick to aggressively step into foot plant after shifting his weight forward. Once planted, Davis turns violently on a firm front leg, rotating the hips and hands together into contact and letting the ball come to him instead of bringing his hands to the ball and getting "extension". Letting the ball travel into one's hitting zone is an excellent indicator of bat speed.
