Let me first say welcome to what I hope will be many readers. In this article, I am going to basically explain what this site is all about.
Baseball-Intellect is a site that combines sabermetric analysis and player scouting into one. Both the major and minor leagues will be covered, but there will be a special emphasis on minor league prospects and the reason is because much of what I will be writing about deals with helping fans actually see players that they either haven't seen before or haven't seen very much of.
Rarely do you hear a fan discuss a team's best prospects on a seen-them-play basis. Usually, we rehash scouting reports, which are sometimes vague, from various publications, looking for every scrap of information we can find. I'm looking to change that.
I would like to give readers a chance to make their own evaluations of players I am writing about. I will provide a detailed player analysis, scouting a player's mechanics, or a pitcher's stuff, while using sabermetric analysis to come to my own conclusions on a player, but the tools are here for the reader to make their own evaluations.
Animations are created to give readers the chance to see the player for themselves. The animations are similar to what you have seen in works done periodically by the Hardball Times and the Baseball Analysts, but I intend to use these animations on a regular basis.
While I understand the animations used in much of this site's content will likely be the biggest attraction for readers, we will feature a variety of baseball-related content including statistical studies, different case studies, and topics related to the mechanics of baseball.
My background includes a degree in Kinesiology (studying the different uses and mechanics of the body) and Sport Management at James Madison University, where I recently graduated. I have worked as an assistant to the general manager of the Fairfax Nationals of the Clark Griffith League and have been a sports writer for the Sun-Gazzette Newspaper for several years now. I have collected hundreds of baseball clips over the past couple years and studied the mechanics of some of the best and worst players in the game to determine what mechanical aspects correlated with which outcomes and you can get an idea of where I shaped my mechanical philosophies by scrolling the About page.
In any case, I believe this site will benefit any baseball fan, and provide a unique perspective for fans that place an importance on a player's performance and the tools they use to accomplish that performance. I hope readers can take away from my articles having learned something new with each and every reading.
Feedback is ALWAYS welcome.
