Ok, let's get down to it...what's the purpose of this site?
This site serves a couple purposes:
1. Baseball Intellect allows readers to learn more about the mechanical and scouting aspects of the game. There are few sites that go into this area with as much depth as Baseball Intellect and I think this site will become apart of a very popular niche of baseball sites going forward.
One thing Baseball Intellect does is give readers a clear example of what exactly I'm talking about. I try to make any talk about mechanics as crystal clear as I can so readers take away actual knowledge from my articles and don't come away asking: what did I just read?
2. The use of animations and graphics. When I browse various message boards, I see posters looking for knowledge on various players and use scouting reports that provide no visuals to supplement the report. Then a debate ensues about which scouting report is correct.
With Baseball Intellect, the reader can actually see what the scouting report refers to and can come away with their own conclusion of a player based on what they see.
3. Baseball Intellect is one of the few sites that breaks down the mechanical and scouting aspects of baseball as well as uses sabermetric analysis. Too often sites focus solely on sabermetric analysis or solely on player scouting. Baseball Intellect does both.
What's Baseball-Intellect's Philosophy on Mechanics?
Simply put, I prefer aggressive pitching mechanics. I want to see aggressive mechanics that do everything possible to lessen the pitcher's injury risk, but do not hurt the quality of the pitcher's overall stuff. Hitting philosphies are less complicated in general but I will say that I do not endorse when a hitter looks to achieve "extension", when they get their hands out in front of their body and make contact out in front.
I think my articles will give you a much better idea as to what my overall philosophies entail.
However, here are some references of various sources that I have used to shape my philosophies:
Carlos Gomez - former pro player, former Hardball Times and Baseball Think Factory writer, and now pro scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks
Paul Nyman - founder of SETPRO, a company that sells training products to help baseball players "maximize their potential."
Tom House - known as the "father of modern pitching mechanics".
Jeff Albert - runs the website swingtraining.net and is a former writer for the Baseball Analysts and now a professional coach.
