I’m not as high as on Arizona’s hitting prospects as others are, but I love the arms this organization is accumulating. The 2011 draft was tremendous not just for the number of quality pitchers they drafted, but for how well rounded all those early drafted pitchers are. By this I mean they all have good stuff that they can throw for strikes and in some cases, command. The quality of the organization’s depth has improved compared to just a couple of years ago, but they definitely need to find some more disciplined hitters who can both draw a walk and keep the strikeouts down to an acceptable rate…

A similar story for Baltimore: a very top heavy system without much depth. If this team is going to have success, they need to stockpile young talent through the draft and take some risks Internationally with top level talent and not just search for diamonds in the rough. It’s not enough to rely on 2 or 3 or even 4 elite level prospects. You have to have quality depth behind them. This is where the Orioles have failed since the mid-90s.

Philly’s system is definitely lacking in depth, but when you consider all the prospects they’ve sent out over the past couple of years for established and All Star quality big league talent, the system is doing OK….a couple of solid drafts and the system will be right back to where it was before.
