Pitchers and Injury Risk
A couple links I wanted to highlight on this Monday. The first is an article from Razzball, which looks at the 20 riskiest pitchers heading into the 2009 season based on various metrics the author came up with. You can see his method by clicking the link and reading the article.
It’s an interesting read because it uses quantifiable figures to assess the pitcher’s injury risk.
Now, sort of related is this article from DRaysBay that looks at the production of all pitchers appearing in Baseball America’s top 10 prospects from 1995 – 2005. The point being that most pitchers appearing on this list did not become what they were expected to become and that it’s not always a good idea to start trading off pitchers that are blocked. The goal should be to stockpile pitching as much as possible and only when necessary, to use your stockpile to acquire needed talent.
