Scouting Ian Krol

Time constraints make it difficult, but ideally I’d like to see a pitcher once at their best, once at their worst, and once as their average self.

In the case of Oakland Athletics pitching prospect Ian Krol, I easily caught his worst start of the season. His line this start: 3 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 2 HR, 0 Ks, 1 BB.

I surprised a few folks when I rated Krol as the 10th best prospect in the Oakland system last year and the ranking seems justified now. However, I was definitely expecting a better performance than the one I watched on July 24th.

There are certain things Krol needs to do if he’s to be successful and almost none of those things were with him in this outing.
