Obviously this start should be viewed as an anomaly — an outlier from Jesse Biddle’s typical performance. So keep that in mind when viewing the video. However, I’ve probably been higher on Biddle than most since he entered pro ball.
From a scouting standpoint, you have a young pitcher with possibly three pitches that grade out as Major League average or better — and maybe a fourth one down the line. His best two pitches grade out as plus offerings and that includes a fastball that can reach the mid-90s. Add in control and command that was never too bad to begin with, but continues to show improvement and you have a very intriguing prospect on your hands. His numbers essentially match what you see with your eyes.
Biddle’s fastball last year was only registering in the upper 80s during the second half of last season, causing his stock to drop. Whatever ailed him last year seems to be gone.
