Premium Content Royal Pitching Prospect Woes: Is Kyle Zimmer Different?

June 7, 2013 BY ALEX EISENBERG No Comments Yet

It wasn’t long ago the Kansas City Royals were stocked with pitching prospects. Not just any pitching prospects — elite ones. However, injury, poor performance, and trades have left the Royals with no home grown front line starter.

Now, of course there are your caveats…some of those power arms were moved successfully to the bullpen. A couple were used in trades to acquire a proven front of the rotation starter in Jamie Shields, as well as other assets. Also, the jury is still out on some of these prospects. Nevertheless, the point stands: it’s been a long time since the Royals developed a front line starter from their farm system. In fact, none of their heralded pitching prospects have even really come close.

Enter Kyle Zimmer. No offense to Yordano Ventura (who I like a lot by the way), but it’s Zimmer who represents the Royals’ best shot at developing a front of the rotation starter. Continue on to see a video breakdown of Zimmer going head-to-head against various Texas Ranger hitting prospects including Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor/…
