It’s been an up-and-down year for Simon Castro. Expectations were high coming into the season and he lived up to the hype early on. But his stock dropped in July for a couple of reasons. For one, he wasn’t as productive in July as he was in the prior three months. And two, there was that appearance at the Futures Game that really disappointed scouts and most who watched him. The reaction, however, was a little harsh given the fact that we’re talking about one inning of work.

So I wanted to give readers a little bigger sample size to view. It’s only three innings mind you, but it gives you a better picture of what Castro has to offer.

In my view, actually, this outing also was not one of Castro’s best. I have one of Castro’s spring training outings on film and his stuff, especially his slider, graded out better in Spring Training.

In fact, Castro failed to generate one swing-and-miss in the three innings I managed to capture. But there were still some positives I found.

A quick note on video structure…videos are edited to include only key and legitimate prospects. Time between pitches and between innings are edited out. Games are edited so you can scout and evaluate a prospect in the most convenient and quickest way possible.
