Scouting Travis Wood vs. Desmond Jennings
PROSPECTS WE’RE WATCHING – Travis Wood (Reds, LHP) and Desmond Jennings (Rays, CF)
A quick note on video structure…videos are edited to include only key and legitimate prospects. Time between pitches and between innings are edited out. Some commercials are left in out of respect for the companies that purchase ad buys.
I use time markers for when a particular hitter comes up to bat or a certain pitcher enters the game so you don’t have to shuffle through the video looking for key players. Games are edited so you can scout and evaluate a prospect in the most convenient and quickest way possible.
SCOUTING REPORT
Travis Wood is consistently around the strike zone. He rarely had a pitch that completely got away from him but he was inconsistent in hitting his spots. The catcher would set up inside and the pitch wound up on the outside corner, for instance. Or he would miss just inside or just a little low.
Wood doesn’t have the kind of stuff to get away with mistakes in the strike zone so he’s going to have to be able to command his stuff. He’s at his best when…
