A bit of background first: Joe Kelly was a 2009 draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals. I rated him as the No. 11 prospect in the Cardinals organization. Wil Myers I’ve done several reports on. One of my favorite prospects in the 2009 draft class, I rated him as the No. 1 prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization.
But let’s start with the Kelly scouting report before going into his head-to-head battles with Myers.
Kelly has a real live arm. The fastball sits in the low – mid 90′s with good life and tends to jump out of his hand. He was particularly strong in the first and second inning. However, his effectiveness waned as the game wore on. This is due in part to Kelly’s use as a reliever in college.
