Premium Content Pitch-by-Pitch: Scouting Zach Wheeler

Zach Wheeler is a tall, lanky, athletic pitcher with tremendous arm speed that leads to both premium velocity and life on his fastball. And with a fastball as electric as Wheeler’s, it can be a difficult pitch to command. Combine that with a delivery that has a lot of moving parts, and strikes can be tough to come by.

However, Wheeler has made a lot of progress over the past three years. He’s toned down his delivery without sacrificing any of his stuff, and he’s gotten better at commanding his fastball though there is still plenty of inconsistency he will have to address. Still the improvement is evident; his W% has gone from around 14% to 12% to 10% this season.
